SCOTLAND
Scotland’s leading artists are invited to apply for the 2006
Scottish Arts Council Creative Scotland Awards. The SAC is encouraging
artists with a record of major achievement in their field to apply
for the 2006 awards which will be presented next March. Application

Northern Ireland
Arts: Towards an Inclusive Society, 21–23rd October, Belfast.
An international community arts conference for community arts
activists, artists, community workers and policy makers. Organised
by Community Arts Forum in conjunction with Belfast Festival at
Queen’s NICVA and Rural Community Network. MAiLOUT will be there.

Action Factory Community Arts is 20 years old and to celebrate
is staging a major exhibition at Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery.
The exhibition, an interactive installation, will illustrate the
development of participatory arts and the core principles of access
to, participation in and ownership of the creative process. To

Value – Include – Connect 2005. International Conference of
the Amateur and Voluntary Arts 11–12 November 2005, Wales Millennium
Centre, Cardiff. Voluntary Arts Network and Voluntary Arts Wales
are proud to be hosting this conference. The establishment of
a European Network of Voluntary/Amateur Arts (ENVAA) is its central

West Midlands
A new study has shown the return to the West Midlands economy
from theatre in one year is £264 million – more than a ten-fold
increase on the initial investment from the Arts Council and local
authorities. The University of Sheffield studied the economic
impact of 22 professionally run theatre venues within the West

Disability and the Arts in Somerset – Networking Event Taunton,

around the county. It is hoped that some of those participating

The Puppet Centre Trust, Norwich announces a `Shadow Puppetry
Masterclass: Shadow Catchers`, 23rd October 2005 , as part the
of Animating the Animators training project. It will explore the
working processes of the company, both creative and technical,
and offers participants the opportunity to experiment with objects,
light and music with the Artistic Directors. To book email Beccy

Arts Council England in partnership with Camden Council Arts
& Tourism is launching a national Youth Carnival Designer Award.
Young people from across the country will be asked to design costumes.
The winners will receive prizes up to the value of £1000. The
awards will be announced at a Mask and Mas Ball on 18 October
and the winners’ work will be transformed into 5ft x 3ft banners
which will decorate the On Route venue, the Camden Centre, during

ArtSway, the contemporary visual arts centre in the New Forest
has secured its future by purchasing its own freehold. ArtSway
is a unique white cube space in a rural setting supporting the
development of new work. It all started in the 90s when a group
